Cedar Bay is a 42-lot development of home and lot packages, located in the quaint town of Manteo, on historic Roanoke Island. It is due west of Downtown Manteo, where one will find a variety of boutiques, shops, restaurants and galleries. There is a general store, an independent bookstore, a coffee shop, antique stores and estate and fine jewelry. There is a small, new release movie theater that has been owned by the same family since the 1930’s. There are several local art galleries, and a waterfront salon and spa. Parks and playgrounds are available for the young and the young at heart. The town boardwalk winds along the waterfront of Shallowbag Bay, where local residents and far-flung visitors alike can safely moor their vessels. The maritime museum offers great activities all season long, including a “Boat in a Day” building class and sailing lessons for our town youth. The “Downeast Rover” sets sail twice daily for a midday or sunset cruise in the Roanoke Sound, giving a truly fresh perspective of Roanoke Island. The Downtown area plays host to a variety of annual festivals and celebrations.
A short stroll across the bridge to Festival Island Park gives residents and visitors access to everything from the Elizabeth II, a replica of the sailing vessel that brought the first Roanoke Island residents across the Atlantic from England, to historical interpretation of Elizabethan Times. You will find another art gallery with rotating shows, a history center and museum, a gift shop, a nature path, and a beautiful outdoor theater that overlooks the Outer Banks. The North Carolina Symphony and the North Carolina School of the Arts put on performances all summer long, in addition to other musical acts, festivals, and special events.
On the north end of Roanoke Island is the North Carolina Aquarium of Roanoke Island, The Elizabethan Gardens, the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, and the Lost Colony Theater, where America’s longest-running outdoor drama is performed each summer. Dare County Regional Airport facilitates air travel.
On the Southern end of Roanoke Island is the village of Wanchese, one of the top-producing fishing communities on the East Coast, providing fresh seafood to consumers all along the Eastern seaboard.
